Jagadam - 4/10
This is one of the most awaited films for many. Main reason for this is undoubtedly SUKUMAR who stole everyone’s heart with ‘Aarya’. The subject he chose, the treatment that he gave really did wonders. This time on the whole it should be admitted that Sukumar failed miserably in sustaining his level.
Whatz itz all about ???
To skim the storyline:
The film has an interesting point on how a young lad gets fascinated by Violence n the power it has in the society. On seeing Pradeep Rawat, Ram gets inspired from him n madly follows his strategy n takes Violence as his career path. He starts as a gang member, then as its leader..moves ahead to get a place under his idol then stands against him..n finally realizes that Violence can be taken as a fashion but not much seriously as the one who gets into it can’t get out of it.
It would be better if we speak lowlights first.
Lowlights:
– The biggest lowlight is the treatment that Sukumar gave to this storyline. Itz very easily predictable n the whole film seems to be dragged a lot. The same storyline could have been handled in a much much better way.
– Hero’s characterization is not properly dealt. In Aarya it was thru Hero’s character, the director showed his brilliance. He bowled audience with every scene of Aarya. This film lacks a lot of it n makes the Sukumar’s thing missing. Sukumar lost his Arya glory especially by not standing to his level in this area. At times hero behaves with courage n immediately he is shown as a coward. This sinusoidal shifting doen’st give a good impact on the hero. Hero’s exact feeling on Pradeep Rawat is not shown well.
– Unscrupulous love track. In recent times this love track competes for the top slot for its miserable ideology. None would be convinced with hero-heroine love as there is no proper reasoning in it. It reminds ‘SanikuDu’ love track. Donno why such themes r being chosen.
– Disturbing climax. It has been proved once again that..the climax concentrating on Kids will not work out..past example being ‘Bangaram’. Donno how his brother n friends reach goons area much early than hero n his gang.
– Lack of entertainment. Even in serious films the narration should have good entertaining scenes..this film lags a lot in it..itz very boring at many instances. There r no regular punches..Pokiri which also had a serious point was entertaining all thru its path..but such elements r missing heavily in this film.
– Post interval doesn’t entice much…the adrenalin pumped with Interval bang immediately gets evaporated after interval.
– Ram’s dialogue delivery is very tough to catch at times. People should not strain much to get dialogues.
Highlights:
Inspite of many disappointing things in the film there are some SUKUMAR mark sparkles here n there in the movie. He has shown his brilliance at some instances.
– ‘jagaDam’ title is very good n catchy…even the punchline - “Violence is a fasion” is also good…but the justification is not upto the mark.
– The titling is good with the usage of ’signatures’ in every one’s name.
– Stills/Photography is good n suits to the context.
– The creativity in parts is noteworthy…
– The scene in which Hero becomes gang leader is awesome. It surely raises audience interest.
–. The initial scenes where it is shown on how hero became fan of VIOLENCE…like the kid feels happy on seeing a jagaDam and when a person stops it he gets irritated..once again when it commences he feels happy..all these montages r good…!!!
– ATM
– Hero-heroine scenes.
– The scene in which Ram handles the guy of heroine’s college is too good. Especially the finishing touch of saying (with that guy):
“enTiraa ninnu koDutunnaa nee members evaru raavaTlEdu..mundu gang nu marchehey..!!!” n then speaking to his gang members:
“enTiraa inta vedava gaaDni leader chEsukunnaaru..mundu leader ni maarchanDehey..!!!”
– The introduction given to Hero’s brother on showing how he took revenge on his maths teacher is nice.
Final Touch:
There is nothing wrong in selecting a variety theme but its execution is also equally important. Both worked well with Aarya but in jagaDam in the latter part Sukumar lost his complete control. Certainly the same storyline cud have been shot interestingly. Lack of regular punches, entertainment, routine narration, unconvincing climax, excess of similar scenes, no grip on characterizations..have made this film a boring one..!!!
RGV’s films Company,Satya,D,Sarkar which also have similar elements are far better than this one. Itz proved once again that itz not that easy to win people’s hearts with variety themes.
On the whole there is nothing much to rave about in this film. This film doesn’t require:
1. 1 year time for its script work.
2. Around 15 crores budget.
3. Crap love track.
Most luckiest person is Allu Arjun as he immediately rejected this story. It would have done much bad to him if he had done this. Even Ram opined that he took a day to ok this story. Sukumar tried to show Violence which is usually regarded as ‘nuisance’ in a ‘new sense’ but it ended as ‘Nonsense’.
‘Re”Viewing’ is the case only with regard to few songs n for serious movie lovers who watch from director’s eyes.
