Don - 3/10
‘Don’e well. ya itz not well done. Lawrence created a well to jump into it along with audience. Itz one of the most embarrassing films Nagarjuna has ever done.
Whatz Itz All About ????
War between a good Don and a goonda Don.
Highlights:
— Titling: In the posters Don lettering in telugu and the english background is good.
— Villain Kelley Dorje. He is too good. Right from his hair style which comprised greyish white and black short hair to his histrionics hez perfect choice.
– Dialogues:
1) Telugodi power choosi teliyakundaane nilabaddaavaa?
inkonni dialogues akkadakkada parvaledu anipistaayi. But one would wonder is this the same “Abburi Ravi” who penned dialogues for Bommarillu !!! Nag fans have given him some dialogues written by them to Abburi Ravi to consider them for the movie but it seems he didn’t do that. The dialogues of Nag fans are lot better than film’s dialogues.
- In the starting fight when the Bihar rowdy tells Nag to sit down, assistants of Don form themselves as a sofa. This is interesting.
- Basic point is good. A national level don aiming at each state and trying to conquer one by one is interesting. It reminds us of heroes like Alexander the great, etc in history. With this point, Lawrence seems to have got excited too much and decided to do a movie on this idea. But he failed in itz execution and EXECUTEd(hang) it.
— Nag, Lawrence villain den ku warning kosam vellaaka meeru ippudu tappinchukoleru ani ante appudu Lawrence suicide bomb idea use cheyyadam baane vundi.
— Villain-Hero confrontationlo Hero charitra villain cheppadam, daaniki counter gaa villain tata daggaranunchi hero charitra cheppadam baavundi. kaani idi already “Lakshmi Narasimha”, “Tagore” movieslo vundi.
– Villain use chese game idea baane vundi.
Lowlights:
Too many routine elements have spoiled the film.
— Nag’s introductionlo, oka family in oka rowdy harass cheyyadam vaallu andaru kottu raa kottu…ee sound akkada vinabadaali…etc etc dialogues vintuntene abba yenni saarlu choodaali baabu ilaanti scenes ni anipistundi.
— Nag’s hair style. In recent times he looked handsome in Manmadhudu, Mass but in Don things have reversed.
– Dialogues:
1) Telugodi style, Telugodi tadakaa, Telugodi dammu, Telugodi paurusham, Telugodi power, Telugodi powderu
ani maati maatiki anadam nijamgaa anavasaram. First fightlo maree too much gaa use chesaaru, deenni.
2) “yenti too much build up istunnaaru ? vaademo rechchipotaadu…nuvvemo..Raghava antaavu…aayangaaru silent ayipotaaru…ee build up yenti ???” ani use chese dialogues….audienceku navvu teppistaayi yendukante manaku koodaa ade pheeling vuntundi.
3) neeku warning istunnaanu, second warning istunnaanu, malli malli cheptunnaanu, final gaa cheptunnaanu Andhra Pradeshni vadiley ani inni saarlu cheppi cheppi mana talaku noppi vastundi.
4) Goa Don, gf to main villain misbehave cheste chivarlo tanu, “champeyyi veedni naa lifenu naasanam chesaadu” ani cheppadam navvu teppistundi.
5) You wud listen nearly 100 times the only word “RAGHAVA” which is Lawrence’s character’s name in the movie. Even the hero’s name Suri/Don is not heard these many times.
– Music:
Lawrence seems to have cleverly impressed Nag, with his composing skills. He first made Nag to listen to his “intandangaa vunnaave evare nuvvu” which is indeed a (only) good song. Though there are shades of Harris Jayraj + Yuvan Shankar Raja + Chakri’s compositions in this song, yet it is a noteworthy tune. With this song Nag wud have gained confidence on Lawrence. But all the remaining songs are so horrible that if they were in a normal hero’s film they wud not have been so much negative response but being in a top hero’s film it added much to the grapevine. All the other songs are real duds.
Lawrence, has been trying since a long time to get focussed as a music composer too. It was heard earlier too that he gave rough tunes for Mass, Style. And do u know the gift he gave to Chiru’s first daughter at her marriage ??? He gifted her a self composed song!!! Though all these things might have brought some hope that Lawrence has the spark to compose music, he should have tried with a small movie first, prove himself and then should have plunged into music composition for a big film.
Recently Mani Sharma got irked by Lawrence’s behavior. When Lawrence was asked to compose dance for Ram Charan Tej’s introduction song “ososi raakasi” in “Chiruta” Lawrence suggested director/producer/music director to change the song after all the remaining members had okayed it. Now atleast for this indirect challenge that took place between Mani Sharma-Lawrence, he should have tried to come up with impressive tunes. But the songs composed by Lawrence shows his level of spark in music. He might have realized by now that itz not that easy to compose and should respect music directors like Mani Sharma.
Itz heard that over 25 crores were spent on this film. This film was in production 15 months. It seems Lawrence was not ready with a bound script and didn’t have clarity regarding the second half of the movie. Gossip mongers say that, before starting the film itself Nag advised Lawrence to spend ample time on the script and he took 2 months to finish the script. Itz also said that Lawrence wrote two versions for the second half. All these things created a big delay in canning the film. Nag had to remain idle for 1 and half year becoz of this film. This film also got troubled while release.
– Choreography:
Itz good to some extent only in the first song. Here too they used a bad idea of throwing flowers all thru the song. Seems to have got inspired with “LOVE MAKES LIFE BEAUTIFUL” song in Bommarillu. But in that they did it only when the tag line comes in and not all thru the song. But here in DON itz quite irritating for the viewers as for the full 4-5 minutes you can’t see anybody’s faces clearly as the flower/rain fall continues. Only in this song they are some good steps for Nag and in the remaining all songs we just wait for the song to get fininshed.
– Illogical:
Too much posh intlo DON vundadam yento…aa swimming pool daggaraku basti janam raavadamento…??? anta hi-fi latest hair styles vunna body guards/ manushulento….??? assalu manchi Don ayinappudu anta hi-fi vundaalsina avasaram yenti? Helicopters koodaa use chestaadu. anta money yekkada nunchi vacchhindi ? oka vela vachchinaa ilaa use cheyyadam yenti? ilaa aalochistoo pote chaalaane vunnaayi.
– Nikhita twist is predictable. Even the entire story is predictable and is already seen in lot many films. There is no novelty at all.
– ‘Mass’ cinemaalo heroine kosam Nag virtual tammudaina Sunil chanipotaadu. ikkada Lawrence Nag ku cinematic tammudu. Heroine Anushka kosam chanipotaadu. adi koodaa ye maatram fighting cheyyakundaa, yedo Alluri Seeta Rama Raju “kaalchu raa naa gundello kaalchu” ani cheppe dialogue laa come on shoot me anadam…andaru shoot cheyyadam…tanu chaavadam…chivaraku tana body ni choosi Hero rechchipovadam villain antu choodadam…routine routine routine.
– Lack of comedians: Therez no comedian in the movie. kanipinche Lawrence departments in the movie, kadha, screenplay, music, choreography, acting, direction aitey kanipinchani aa remaining pille
(ante simham analemu kadaa) Comedian. akkadakkada konchem navvu teppinchagaliginaa full time comedian paatra poshinchaalanukunna Lawrence ku part time pass marks koodaa padavu.
Final Touch:
The main reason for this misfiring is one and only Lawrence. He failed in all the departments that he handled. Story, Screenplay are bad. Music, Choreography, Direction, Acting are below average.
Lawrencelo creativity evaroporate ayinattu telipe cinema DON. Similar scenes, similar actions, similar dialogues can be observed in all his films. amaayakangaa act cheyyadam, daakkovadam, dance chestunnattu stills…abbabbabba inkaa yenni cinemallo same action chestaadu ? Itz really difficult to watch him for 2 and half hours. ‘Style’ movielo annaa Dance terrific gaa chesi highlights pettagaligaadu. But DON is void of highlights.
ee failure ki karta, karma, kriya Lawrence. tana meeda inta confidence pettadam okate Nag tappu. assalu oka passionto cinema chesinattu yekkadaa kanapadadu, yedo casual gaa yedi teesinaa choostaarule annattu undi yavvaaram.
This is the best film to learn what NOT to do in a big film. Nag tried his best to add value to the film. We’ll develop a soft corner for Nagarjuna through out the film and feel that paapam Nag baane chestunnadu kaani Lawrence chedagottaadu movie ni rakarakaalugaa anni rakaalugaa ani.Recently Nag commented that he regret for doing ANTHAM movie. Itz for sure that he would quote DON too in the list in future.
Itz known that he ‘en’courages experiments and ‘this’ courage ‘dis’courages him this time. Dont know y he trusted Lawrence to such an extent and entrusted all major departments. inkaa nayam Lawrenceku editing/cinematography teliyadu…teliste vaatito dance cheyyinchevaademo.
My respect towards Lawrence has gone to rock bottom. These days was getting inspired by the way he came up in life.
The care he shows towards differently abled people but thatz old story now, his over confidence has covered all the good things. Itz high time that he should realize his mistakes.
‘Re’-view is almost no with many people. It already received too much bad talk. Even some low budget movies are running housefulls but there no big response for DON though the producer/fans claim that it is running well.
Yes ofcrse itz running towards well(baavi)
