Happy Days - 7/10
One word ‘SHAKEr’ says it all !!!
This movie is definitely GOOD but it is not that GREAT OR EXTRA ORDINARY work as much betterment was possible !!!
***********************************
Whatz itz all about ?
Itz all about the most memorable days of any person…COLLEGE DAYS.
***********************************
Highlights:
– ‘Happy Days’, Interesting yet affirmative title. This is in addition to the new wave in telugu cinema - putting in entire english title now taking it to two words. Many have already started connecting the title with their lives. Even the caption, ‘SUNDAY laa vunTundi’ is also cool…
matching the creative level of earlier captions of Sekhar’s films.
– The basic idea of canning a picture entirely on college days has to be lauded. There have been innumerable films earlier in which there were many many college scenes often disgusting with cheap jokes on lecturers, principals..and degrading their own college. This negative facet has indeed provided a big void to fill in for a fresh picture which displays the exact emotions of college going students. Sekhar Kammula is brilliant enough in looking into such fine idea.It was obvious that from a clean film maker like him if a student centric movie is gonna come then youth r surely going to connect with it. He also tried to show many realistic scenes that r happening in colleges. Every student identifies this set up with himself. Directing good movies is one task and making them commercially viable is also equally challenging task. Itz interesting to find the strategies that Sekhar has employed in breaking all the rules of so called CINEMATIC GRAMMAR and yet winning the hearts of millions. Right from his simple calculation of targeting 15 lakh audience, the tie ups with corporates like Pantaloons, BIG FM, selection of new cast, limiting the budget etc have all laid an innovative path in telugu film production. There r around 200 engineering colleges alone in AP. Itz for sure that every student/xstudent feels great n thrilled to find his life on celluloid and it was quite obvious that youth will take this film to their hearts and this film is already going beyond expectations and is gonna become a big sensation of 2007. For many ex-students itz surely nostalgic treat. Many r thanking Sekhar for showing their memories once again. All to all itz stunning planning of Sekhar to go with this theme.
– Casting: Simply Superb. No doubt on that !!! Everyone seems to be apt for their roles.Tyson and Rajesh character’s selection is excellent. They have shown their mark. Tamanna also steals the show. She resembles Sada both in looks and histrionics.
a) Tyson Tyson Tyson. Till these days we have been in a notion that in telugu films image gets elevated only with heroic deeds like bashing up 100 at times 1000 people but here comes the scenario where in any audien falls for a CHARACTER with his TRUE CHARACTER. Right from his looks, accent, histrionics everything has worked well with Tyson’s character. Tyson - Shravs love track is a major highlight in the movie. Full credits to the story/dialogue writer Sekhar for this.
The scenes
1) Tyson inviting Shravs for outing.
2) Tyson expecting her rejection.
3) Tyson - Shankar’s conflict.
All these have taken Tyson character to good heights.
b) Rajesh !!! What an energy ??? This guy seems to have great future in tollywood. He is fan of Ravi Teja and one can understand it instantly on seeing him. He has performed very well. Such characters always win audience recognition. He has spilled humor thru out the film. Has great ease in acting and in dances. It is noteworthy that he has been centred in all the songs involving dance sequences. He is at his best in “Rajesh - Shankar” clash scene beating up Shankar for his wrong doings. Nice to know that he has already got chance as a solo hero.
– MOVING MOVIES always MOVE well in winning hearts. There r some well handled emotional scenes:
1) Appu and her father’s reaction after leaving her in hostel. Direction is simply awesome in this scene.
2)
Tyson - Shankar clash.
Rajesh - Shankar clash.
Tyson - Shravs love track.
– Some dialogues r note worthy and praise worthy.
1) TYSON to Shravs on “isTam, bhayam”
2) Tyson expecting Shravs rejection.
3) Tyson’s words for his friend.
3) Rajesh’s dialogues on “backlogs”
4) Even Rajesh’s cut dialogues with auto wallah, appu, kamalini, on “KODI,PILLA” get great response as they r all situation based.
- Sekhar has shown good creative quotient in some scenes:
1) The way tamanna washes her face after getting irked with Chandu’s behavior with another girl, Appu’ reaction over that and in the next scene Appu getting in the place of Tamanna is nice.
2) The way the junior girls swap their paths while tying rakhees to their senior counterparts.
3) Madhu throwing Chandu’s jeans in Hussain sagar scene shows his creativity highlighting the point that, for girls even minute details matter most in their love interests.
– Music, lyrics, cinematography, editing depts have contributed well to the film. Itz new music in Sekhar’s film. His selection of going for new music director from Radha Krishnan has proved to be right attempt. All the songs r good. There r many montages that gain interest. Back ground score is also soothing n suited well. However he shud have also tried out “MAHESH SHANKAR Of VENNELA fame” and “SAAJAN of Modati Cinema fame” before fixing upon Mickey J. Meyer.
