Munna – Movie Review

Munna – 4/10

Munna…the most delayed movie in recent times hits the screens at last but is struggling to hit the box office correctly. Usually for crazy combinations people bring out extreme hype with full positive talk but this film has got too much negative talk in shooting phase itself…but one name ‘Dil Raju’ brought some ray of hope as this might also turn as a good hit in his ‘hit list’….but truly speakng itz a big disappointment…!!! Anyway it reached everyone’s expectation that it may misfire..so itz successful in being unsuccessful.

Whatz itz all about ?

About a kid Munna who grows on his own, gets in rift with Khakha, a cold blooded goon in the city and later reveals that he is Khakha’s son n his only aim is to finish him…why he does so ? How he does forms the remaining story.

Highlights:

– ‘MUNNA’ – title is very catchy and apt.
– The film introduction is very good, showing a kid n his proceedings..n using the name “MUNNA” from him is interesting direction.
– Stylish presentation is the main asset of the film. Though Prabhas hair style raised eyebrows of many he is good in the film. At many instances, pretty normal scenes have also been canned with good style.
– The twist of showing Rahul Dev as the side kick of Prakash Raj is terrific. Itz a very good idea.
– The fight in which Prabhas encourages his friend to solve his matter himself and to beat Prakash’s son is good.
– Venu Mahav character of “CHEMCHA” is nice…especially his chain comprising “chemcha”(spoon) evokes smile.
– Usage of “THE BEGINNING” as the end title card.
– The usage of “tries tries until u cries”, “I drops”..etc english is good from Venu character.
– The proposal scene of Venu urging Ileana is also shown well.
– Usage of red letter in name in titling gains interest.
– Dialogues need a special mention. They r very interesting:
Almost all good dialogues go in the format:

To mention….
** Prabhas to Rahul Dev:
naa kOsam inta dooram vachchinanduku thanks..
antE dooram venakku pamputunnanduku sorry..
** Sukanya to Prabhas:
saayam aDagaDaaniki mana vaaDu analEdu..
mana vaaDu kaabaTTE saayam aDagaTaaniki vachchaanu
** Prakash Raj introduction dialogue:
manishiki cheDDabuddi puTTakatO vastundi..adi vaaDu chastE kaani pOdu..
** Illeana to Prabhas:
neeku teliyadu kaani neeku nEnanTE chaalaa isTam
** Prabhas to Illeana:
nuvvu already book ayipOyaav kadaa…
** Illeana to Venu:
choosi navvukODaaniki baavunTaaDu.
** kaakaa koDukani..’kaakaa’paDutunnaaru..
** Interval dialogue:
na koDuku..ee panulu anni chEstunnaaDu ani nuvvu anukOkunDaa..
“naa koDaka” anukunElaa chEstaanu..!!!
– The bullets knowledge is capitalized well.
– BhayaannE bhayapeDadaam…usage in ‘Baga Baga manDE’ song.!!!
– “ninna monna …munnaa”, E’munna’DE..usages r good..
– The fight in which Prabhas getz hold of goon speaking on cell phone n back traces other goons is good. The way Prabhas handles trigger of a gun in goon’s hand is terrific.
– The confrontation scene of KOTA and PRAKASH in Prakash’s house is good.

Average Lights:

– Music is average. It can’t be rated as too good and at the same time can’t say as too bad. They r so so range. “Bhaga bhaga manDE” song is canned well. “Manasa nuvvunDE chOTE”, “kadulu kadulu” songs r fine. In “kadulu kadulu” song we can observe Prabhas uttering 1,2,3 for dance steps, one might wonder how none noticed such basics. Choreography is good in “vastaava vastaava” song. “chammakkurO”, “konchem konchem” songs donot find a place in any one’s mind. Harris Jayraj has to work on mass songs well, itz sounding to be his weakness.

LowLights:

– Prabhas dialogue delivery. When he has to utter them fastly..his flaws r getting elevated. These can be easily caught in interval episode.
– Heroine character has nothing to do..except love hero all the while, run behind him craving for his love.
– Dragging of normal scenes too is the main draw back of the film. Inorder to put in many special frames, visuals, minute expressions are also projected in slow motion …etc this is a serious flaw in the movie.
– The scene in which Rahul Dev convinces Brahmaaji is unconvincing.
– Too lengthy fights disturb normal audience’s attention.
– The finishing of Prakash Raj’s character reminds u ATHADU’s ending..where in Kota kills himself.
– There r many routine things in this film…KOTA fighting to close a pharmaceutical company…villains killing him…etc

Final Touch:

Though “Munna” has some flavors which taste good but the main item is not that mouth watering. Vamsy Paidipalli is said to have finished this full script in just 45 days and when he narrated to Dil Raju team..every one liked it immensely. Actually there are certain points in the script that sound great for hearing..but when it comes to visuals..sustaining audience interest through out the film is the challenging thing. Exactly at this point, this film failed miserably. Vamsy has fire in him..but the problem is he carries gallons of water himself to put it off. He appears in the introduction scene of Venu Madhav.

As, ‘What’ is revealed much early…remaining part of ‘How’ is left for him..so he completely relied on screenplay and cud do well at some instances..but that doesn’t cater much to the thirsty audience. ‘Dil’ Raju might have been a bit over confident of his judgement. But this is a trapping script as in narration it might lure any producer that itz an interesting one to go with…but when the real output comes itz purely lottery whether people accept it or not. Itz a film with 70% routine stuff credited by normal story, normal situations..n it is 30% creative stuff by throwing creative sparkles here n there…even in seemingly normal scenes.

The main drawback of this film is dragging each and every minute thing…but in case of Dil Raju’s first film ‘Dil’, everything goes very fast n audience get hooked to it. But in MUNNA they have given ample time for audience to get distracted.

Prabhas is in doldrums now..though he did well to some extent in Munna..it might result in his hattrick of flop to average films. Munna is certainly average to below average film. Only “BHADRA” of Dil Raju’s films received mixed response initially n later it became a good commercial hit. Bhadra doesn’t fit in the list of Dil Raju’s other films..DIL, AARYA, BOMMARILLU. Munna is also a misfit for him. He with his midas touch cud bring out Bhadra..but as 2007 is doing all possible bad to Raju…like picking up jagadam..etc this time..also ‘luck’ might not ‘look’ at him.

To end in style …”vishaya’munna’……….vishayamlEni MUNNA”

‘Re”view’ing is the case if u r too ‘free’ to pay the ‘fee’ !!!
