OKKADUNNAADU – 7/10
Here comes a refreshing theme for Telugu audience. My sincere advice for all those who r thinking of watching this movie shortly, is to stop reading reviews n go n watch this flick. All others carry on.
Whatz itz all about ?
To skim the story line..
Usually in normal movies it is shown that the villain has ulterior motives on one or other things mostly based on money but here the villian is selfish n cautious of his own life. He belongs to a rare BOMBAY BLOOD GROUP n needs heart transplant from a similar person. So search starts n ends at finding the protagonist whoz on a different mission n landed in Mumbai. Now the remaining story is how these goons urge, convince, reciprocate, threaten, fight…with the hero as the
situations change continuously with hero realizing the real intention behind all these. Apart from his main mission of solving their bank problem he gets into other problems. How he gets out of these is the remaining story.
Highlights:
— BOMBAY BLOOD GROUP is itself a big highlight. It is a fact that even many doctors r not aware of it.
— The movie is an instant winner right from the first frame. The projection of BOMBAY BLOOD GROUP during titles is terrific. I’m sure audience would be glued to their seats curiously. The dialogue delivery of the person is also very apt. This is surely a different introduction.
— OKKADUNNADU – title. This film was initially titled, “kEka”. The final title is very apt for the plot. Normal cine goer expects that hero is the one person who can fight against the villain..but the main judgement to the title is that there is
finally one person who fits exactly for heart transplantation of the villain.
– The ‘heart’ of the plot of using ‘heart’ transplant issue between hero-villain is superb. We have seen rift between hero-villain in many angles but this one is too good to commend.
– Heroine Neha Jhulka is cute n fits to her role well. She resembles normal city girl whom we r much aware with our eye contacts on roads n shopping malls.
– The love track between Hero-Heroine is also interesting. Normally we see Hero urging, moving around Heroine for the sole purpose of love. Here it is shown with a different angle as hero would be following her for his own mission.
– Godown fight is good.
– The mindgames that hero/villain play to solve their respective problems gain interest…though some things
can be predicted.
– Climax is good though not extra ordinary. Villain offers him 200 crores to solve his bank problem n inturn seeks his heart. Situations show that hero would sacrifice his life but he kills villain n loots money.
– Two songs “aDugaDuguna..”, item song are nice. Former one for its emotional treatment. Latter one for its interesting TINGLISH lyrics.
– Some dialogues r very good. To mention:
“veeDi gunDE dhairyam teesEsi..gunDE matram unDETlu chooDandi”
(However..it wud have been much better with:
“veeDi gunDE dhairyam lO dhairyam teesEsi gunDE maatram unDETlu chooDanDi”)
“nEnu vErE pani meeda ikkaDaku vachchaanu. adi aapi mee pani modalupeTTaananTE okkaDu kooDa migalaDu.”
– The way hero captilizes his advantages..like the goons can’t kill him n need him in safe mode..n the weakness of villain, to overcome his problems is very interesting to watch.
– Bramhanandam comedy is good. Itz a big relief in second half.
– Terrific screenplay is the weapon that Chandu can boast in his creative kitty.
– Interval fight is good. Goons inject him…hero asks one of them on how much time will it take to function..when he comes to know that he has 4 minutes he manages to handle goons in 3 minutes.
– Unlike normal TELUGU HERO roles..here hero role runs in a passive mode initially …n closely scales heights n reaches zenith.
– Good emotional touch is given with hero’s desperate situation..initially shown well ..especially in “aDugaDuguna..” song. But this gets evaporated quickly.
– Some scenes r canned well…like the one showing the murder of Tanikella Bharani.
Hero – Heroine scenes.
Hero – Rahul Dev scenes.
Hero using fire extinguisher to confuse rowdies to kill themselves.
Lowlights:
– Music is not a big shake.
– Lack of good comedy is a big let down especially in the first half. In AnukOkunDa Oka ROju, though it was a serious film right blend of comedy was woven through out the movie. It is not the case with this film.
– Interval bang is not a striking one.
– Excessive Violence is shown. At instances you would feel it as if MOSQUITO KILLING as hero punches goons heads to walls, rods..etc.
- Though the film is interesting it bores u at instances.
- With the range of speciality that Chandu has shown with interesting thoughts..the bank issue that he projected doesn’t fit into the list. It seems to be a normal one.
Final touch:
This film surely gains people’s interest with interesting story line. Chandu who has great following among young aspirants n multiplex audience, has once again come out with good stuff. The way he converts interesting things happenings around us to stories n stories to films is terrific. Surely there is much to learn from this talented technician. He managed to put intelligent quotient to live happenings..like BLOOD GROUP issues, BANK’s insolvency, uncovered bore well pits..in a film.
On the whole though this film has many interesting things u get bored at times but Chandu managed to grab u r attention at these instances with regular twists. As the main intention of the plot is revealed much early with ‘WHAT’ being answered it is the ‘HOW’ that remains in directors hands after first half an hour.
GOPI CHAND though he fits into the character seems to be not the perfect cast. An artist of MAHESH BABU stature would have done wonders with this variety plot.
On the whole it is a GOOD movie to watch though can’t b commended as an extra ordinary work. Itz obviously a DIRECTOR’s movie n most awaited one among some diff..genre film lovers. Chandu has mastered the art of converting thoughts into stories n stories into movies.
Interesting screenplay is a cake walk for him . It is one more
additional pearl in his creations.
‘Re”viewing’ is the case with regular gaps with many.
