Kadhanayakudu – Movie Review

Kadhanayakudu – 4/10

Menu:

Cast: Rajnikanth, Jagapathi Babu, Meena
Music: G.V.Prakash
Director: P.Vasu
Banner: Vyjayanthi Movies – Aswini Dutt

Soup/Starters: This film is a remake of Malayalam’s super hit movie ‘Kadha Parayumbol’. The story is an excellent adaptation of ‘Kuchelan – Krishna’ friendship. Here it is the conflict between a poor barber and a film super star.

Spicy Items:

– Story idea is extra ordinary. Sreenivasan should be commended for his thought of transforming the story of Kuchelan into modern times. The idea of using rich and poor conflict in friendship itself depicts lot of emotions.

– Rajnikanth: As expected he is the major attraction in the film. This film is very close to his real life. His conviction is obvious. He is the perfect cast for the role of Superstar. Rajni used this film as a medium to answer his critics over various issues in his life. This scene surprises many viewers as it goes too high on criticizing note.

– Jagapathi Babu as Kuchelan could show KUCH(hindi) ELAN towards the end.

– Rajni Kanth’s speech in climax is excellent and is heartmelting. It the highlight of the film. It is a great compilation. It touched many fine aspects in true friendship.

Eg: Rajni’s feeling to include ‘mitradevobhava’ in the sequence, ‘matrudevobhava’, pirtudevobhava’, ‘acharyadevobhava’

– Cinematography is of top class. There are some spectacular visuals in the movie especially, the riverside scenes.

– S.P.Balu dubbed for Rajni instead of regular Mano. It looks odd initially and takes time for the audience to adjust. But the climax speech shows what a great orator S.P.Balu is. He did a splendid job in the climax.

Dry Items:

– Screenplay of the film is absurd. A marvelous concept has been framed with insipid scenes. Some scenes are too boring and some are even irritating.
Eg: The scene in which Rajitha and Saira Bhanu tend to lure Meena with Biryani is so amateurish and unnecessary that one would doubt the intellect of the makers.

The script has lot of scope to showcase emotions of the poor barber but it hasn’t been exploited well. The plot should have been moved in a different angle rather than continuous scenes of the School teachers, fans of the hero. This sounded as too much repetition of similar scenes.

– Direction of the film is poor. It is hard to believe that it is the same director who made ‘Chandramukhi’.

– Music is one of the major disappointments. G.V.Prakash failed to utilize his once in a life time’s opportunity. No tune carries into your mind. Among the sloppy tunes, ‘Super Star’ and ‘Cinema’ songs are average. He should learn quickly on how to give saleable music. This nephew of A.R.Rahman offered nothing new. A more matured music director was needed for such a movie.

Producers spent lavishly for sets in the songs but the tunes spoiled the entire dish.
Eg: Rajnikanth and Nayantara song

Back ground score carries great importance in such emotional movies but this film fails in that too.

– Much care should have been taken with costumes. Except the house, Jagapathi Babu’s family doesn’t seem to be in a miserable state at all. Meena’s costumes, dubbing spoiled the feel.

– Sunil’s comedy is irritating. As a barber who blabbers he got much footage but is unpleasing.

– Many scenes in the film defy logic.

Eg:

- The school teachers/principals trying to bribe Jagapathi Babu and resorting to all sort of means to get the Super star as their cheif guest.
- The film unit enters the village to shoot ‘Kucheludu’ movie. But later they shoot ‘Narasimha-2′ and ‘Chandramukhi-2′. This is not clarified as they seemed to have been in a hurry to cash on the craze.

Fingerbowl:

Inspite of great histronics by Jagapathi Babu, Rajni Kanth and an ideal idea this film fails miserably in meeting the expectations. The film had the scope to bring feel in every reel and to reach the range of classics like ‘Matrudevobhava’ but it missed a wonderful opportunity. This concept falls in the (he)art film genre. But the makers tried to commercialize it. It made the film look artificial.

It adds as one more disappointment from Vyjayanthi movies in recent times. Owing to the star cast it might collect but it can’t connect to the audience’s heart.

Re-viewing is the case only with the climax speech of Rajni Kanth.
