Ullasamga Utsahamga – Movie Review
Ullasamga Utsahamga – 7/10
Menu:
Cast: Yasho Sagar, Sneha Ullal
Music: G.V.Prakash
Director: Karunakaran
Banner: Amruth Amarnath Productions
Soup/Starters: Karunakaran took a long gap after being unhappy over the result of ‘Happy’. This time he comes up with a tender love story on the lines of ‘Toli Prema’. This film was underproduction for a long time.
This is basically a try(i) angular love story with an invisible third side. As in a routine love story hero tries to win heroine. But in ‘Manasanta Nuvve’ style, Heroine tries to find her childhood love.
Then in ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ style hero resorts to help his love in finding her love. Atlast in ‘Toli Prema’ style heroine realizes hero’s love.
Spicy Items:
– Direction: Karunkaran is back with a bang this time with some creative brilliance. Though he has faltered at some scenes, he could spill humor here n there in the movie and made it a watchable one. He has done a fabulous job in showing heroine close to an angel. There are some exceptionally good scenes:
- vaddu Saroja: This episode is awesome. At first it looks ok but the way it is used later on is outstanding. Kudos to the creator. This usage might become a rage among youngsters. It is a beautiful way to calm down anyone.
- ’short term memory loss’ has been used very well. This gave lot of scope for comedy and has been exploited to the core. The hospital scene in which heroine’s friend bluffs hero’s gang is very good. One guy uttering ‘Maa mama MLA’ all the time and the way they analyze an X-ray of leg as an X-ray of Brain are hilarious.
- Suman Shetty getting into the role of a mad guy and his parents watching this has been executed very well.
- Climax is one of its major highlights. It has been driven well into a lighter note from a serious one. The way heroine reacts after locking herself in a room, the climax punch…bring smiles.
- When hero asks for a help lying on hospital bed heroine reacts heavily and suddenly hero saying – ‘ee angle lo oka photo teesukovalani vundi’.
- Hero’s introduction is interesting. It is a nice way of skipping hotel bills.
- Meditation classes have been used well.
– Heroine: Sneha Ullal seems to be like a winzip version of heroines Aishwarya and Sneha. It is a dream debute for her in Telugu.
Karunakaran is known for showing heroines splendidly. He moves a step ahead this time. Right from the costumes everything is exceptionally good with regard to heroine. Her introduction is very pleasant.
– The story of the film is ok. Though it has loops and loop holes finally it lands safe. It has the shades of many films but carefully maintains the distance from the references.
Dry Items:
– Hero: Yasho Sagar is the main drawback for the film. He failed miserably in all sorts of scenes. It is difficult to find positives on his side. He looks better only in still photographs. If a director like Karunakaran could bring such output from him then other directors might find it too difficult to work with him. He needs a complete make over.
A better hero would have done a lot of difference for the movie. Sivaji’s dubbing didn’t suit him on the whole. At times it helped in giving the required punch but it is too rough for such a love story.
– Sunil, Venu Madhav’s roles are mediocre. They just filled the scenes.
– Music: It is not upto the mark. ‘Chakori chakori’ song is ok. All the songs are not catchy. No tune gets printed in the mind. G.V.Prakash needs to regroom his work and concentrate on giving tunes with larger span.
Back ground score is better than tunes.
– Dialogues by Chintapalli Ramana leave no mark.
– Inspite of showing excellence in major parts of the film, Karunakaran failed at certain aspects.
- Heroine’s backdrop of step mother eyeing her property is routine.
- Could not bring right histrionics with heroine too in some scenes.
Eg: When she sees L.B.Sri Ram at her friend’s house.
- Stretched screenplay in the second half. The journey of hero-heroine to Kolkata is lengthy.
- There is too much impact of ‘Toliprema’.
Eg: In the former hero plays with bike here it is with car.
Fingerbowl:
Inspite of some routine flaws of Karunakaran he impresses this time with some extraordinary scenes possible only to him. The film starts unexcitingly but slowly picks up the pace. A little concentration on the casting, editing would have brought lot of change in the output. Anywayz, still the film is worth watching.
Re-viewing can be done over VCD for the comedy scenes and the beautifully shown heroine.
