Ashta Chamma - 7/10
Cast: ‘Colors’ Swathi, ‘World Space Radio’ Nani, ‘IdleBrain’ Srinivas Avasarala
Music Director: Kalyani Malik
Cinematographer: P.G.Vinda
Director: Indraganti Mohana Krishna
Banner: Art Beat Capital - Ram Mohan
Soup/Starters:
Right from the title and the cast, this film drove our attention for its nativity. This film is all about ‘Name’rology and its consequences.
Swathi is an ardent Mahesh Babu’s fan and upon missing him for Namrata she decides to marry someone with his name atleast. Srinivas(Anand) is a neighbour bro of Swathi who is troubled by Swathi’s love for Mahesh. He decides to get rid off Swathi by bringing in some bakra and tagging her to him. Then enters Nani (Mahesh alias Rambabu) who is on the misson of enjoying life.
Rest of the film is all about the consequences and comedy of errors that happen when Swathi discovers that Nani’s original name is not Mahesh.
Spicy Items:
Story: The story is definitely refreshing and is interesting. It is surprising to see a film made with the basic concept of a NAME. Kudos to the writer/director. It seems to be a WILD(E) inspiration of OSCAR as credited by him. Anyways his pen power is obvious. It is a welcome change for Telugu movies.
Screenplay: The story point has been wonderfully drafted into a film. It is the major highlight as the story sails through right levels continuously.
Dialogues: Even this is also a surprise package from Mohana Krishna. He has written some wonderful dialogues/scenes.
- Srinivas: rojanta ye pani cheyyakunda khaligaa tiragatam chala kastam.
- using Pokiri dialogue in flashback and introducing Puri Jagannadh.
- The scene in which Swathi compares Mahesh and Ram Babu names.
When she says ‘babu babu babu’ in a beggar style its difficult to control smile.
- Srinivas: ikkada security chala tight ga vundi. (on seeing Hema)
- Srinivas: pujari illu idena, walkable distancelo pettukunnade. lunch ku vachchestaademo.
-
Tanikella: babu meeru peru marchkunte mee tallitandrula atma ghoshistundi…..
Nani: idemanna deyyam cinema climax aa inni atamalu ghosinchadaniki ?
-
Hema: yentaina mee uppu tintunna kadaa babu..
Nani: abba nuvvu tinaalsina uppu inkaa chala vundi, mundu vaadini aapu.
-
Jhansi: paatika kotla aasti vunte NRI peru Pandaina parledu.
-
Swathi: Anand phonelo dorakatledu…(intending that he is out of coverage area)
Vasu(sarvam in Amrutham): chala easy madam, Menu lo contacts loki velli………
-
Continuous dialogues on daggara, dooram
-
Nani: kulam annadi naa Curriculum lo ledu..naadi broadcast
-
Srinivas: nuvvu tanani drop(lift) chestava ?
Swathi: ippudey kadaa kalisindi appudey drop(love) cheseyyaalaa ?
-
Srinivas: meerem chestuntaaru ?
Nani: Business…boring business…
Srinivas: ante pipes…etc ??
-
Srinivas: Barista…nenu maatram yenta kalam bharista usage.
– Performances:
- Swathi: She is known as Swa-ati. It is the perfect role for her as a hyper active girl and die hard fan of Mahesh. She suited well but it also shows another point that the characters that she can enact are limited. Even in this film there are no traces of her dance movements.
- Nani: This guy with pretty ordinary looks seems average in the beginning and grows better as the film progresses. He has good ease in acting and dances. He might find it difficult to settle as a solo hero.
- Srinivas Avasarala: This Idlebrain find is okay. He can be used for certain Telugu Film’s avasaralu.
- Jhansi played her role with elan.
Songs:
- ‘Nijamga neggadamantey Istamgaa odadam antey’ song is excellent.
- BGM is very good.
Dry Items:
– Film is too noisy. Someone or other would be shouting at any given point of time. This irritates to some extent. It should have been limited.
– Mohana Krishna tried to be too different and this went over board at times:
- Some scenes on Tanikella Bharani and Hema are irritating.
- Song picturized in old model is not appealing.
- Interval dialogues by Srinivas to audience.
- Turkey Towel, Hema-Jhansi nuvve nuvve dialogues.
– Srinivas’s parents asking him to spend more money is far from reality.
– llogical points/Suggestions:
- Its shown as Srinivas searches through out the state for a guy with the name ‘Mahesh’. A simple search in Orkut gives him hundreds of Mahesh Babus. Why/How did he miss that ?
- Jhansi’s friend arriving in no time in the climax is illogical.
Final Touch:
Story is a bit unconvicing as it is hard to believe a girl giving so much of an importance to a NAME. Director tried to justify it by giving examples of fanatic girls who tried to give up their lives in the name of fans and by describing girls feelings on a specific name. But still an iota of doubt disturbs our minds.
Even with no so great looks of any of the lead actors the film sounds good. Situational comedy worked out very well in second half. The film is getting roaring response for its instant comedy. There are fair chances of this film becoming a decent hit.
Re-viewing is the case with some people as it strikes the chord with comedy.
