New Age Green Revolution: An Idea that must be implemented in Schools

New Age Green Revolution
Long back I came across this idea in a social concern website that collects ideas from people for the betterment of society. Among many routine and slopppy ideas I was bumped on seeing this:
The concept is to introduce a separate subject/lab exam for each and every student by giving him a piece of land in the college’s premises and use it in an effective way to grow plants…etc. The best they bring it up the more marks they get.
This might sound as an impractical idea for schools which are not spacious. But for the schools having plenty of space for play grounds it can be used. It is common thing that if anything is linked to marks then students gain interest as it becomes mandatory. It might serve as a means to educate kids regarding many things.
I visualized a wide barren land initially used as play ground turning into a green revolution with the idea’s implementation.
The idea can be taken forwarded by solving other doubts like what if a student finishes the course and leaves ? Then it should be the responsibility of the next kid who owns
it to decide on the crop/plants and proceed from there.
If the task is too difficult for a school to implement real time cultivation..stuff they can adopt the means of using trays instead of digging the land. Methods like Bonsai can
be implemented if space is a constraint.
If there is scope for permananent cultivation, the biggest relief a student can get is when he returns years later as an alumni, if a plant planted by him turns into a huge tree.
Even we used have ‘Green Activities’ on every second saturday of a month in our school. All used to just play around with plants and leave them.
Only when it becomes a part of curriculum and a kid is gifted with a piece of land he can own it.
Lets hope that someone implements it………!!!!
